Hello!
My name is Marion Lewis
I created this site to help others achieve the exceptionally good health that my family and I have experienced since we began taking healthy fish oil supplements. I have always been health conscious, watch my weight, exercise regularly and take a good multi-vitamin every day. Yet at my last physical my doctor told me that my LDL cholesterol was too high and my HDL was too low.
Heart disease runs in my family so my doctor recommended statins and wrote me a prescription, which I never filled. Simply put, statins are drugs that reduce cholesterol levels. I do not believe in statins. I am perfectly capable of altering my eating habits if that is what’s necessary.
But since I was already eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly my doctor (like most) felt that statins were the only solution. I believe that the doctors are wrong. They are even recommending statin drugs for obese kids under 8 years of age. There is no way to justify such treatment but that’s what they recommend. Let me give you a few facts.
A few facts:
- Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the US.
- Stroke is third on the list.
- Diabetes is sixth.
- High LDL cholesterol, low HDL and high triglyceride counts accompany all three.
- Fish oil supplements are recommended by the American Heart Association for those who have suffered a heart attack.
- Studies have shown that a daily fish oil supplement increases HDL levels and lowers triglyceride counts without raising LDL levels.
- Statin drugs cause muscle damage in 44% of all people who take them; the heart is a muscle.
- Statin drugs cause kidney damage and renal failure.
- Statins damage the liver.
- Fish oil supplements are not accompanied by unwanted side effects; in fact they provide multiple benefits.
So, you can probably see why I chose not to use statins, but I was surprised by the health benefits my family experienced after we all started taking regular fish oil supplements. I’ll get to those in a minute but first let me tell you how I learned about fish oil; and since my doctor didn’t tell me about fish oil supplements, I asked Warren.
Warren Matthews is an expert on health supplements. When he was 40 he realized that he wasn’t getting the most out of his life. Now that he’s 60 most of us think that he still looks 40. I started using the dietary supplements he recommends years ago but I didn’t know much about fish oil and fish has never been one of my favorite foods. I might eat a serving once or twice a month but I usually choose shrimp, which is not a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.
What are Omega-3 Fatty Acids?
Of all the fats found in the foods we eat, omega 3s are the most essential and the hardest to find. Most of our foods contain saturated, polyunsaturated or trans-fat. Omega 3s are UNsaturated. Saturated fatty acids are triglycerides. Eating saturated fat typically accounts for high triglyceride levels in the blood. I was not eating much saturated fat at all. For meats, I chose lean chicken or turkey breast. I cooked with canola or olive oils. I ate lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, mainly organic. So you can see why I was surprised when my doctor found that I had a problem with my cholesterol.
Omega 3 fats are “essential” to the human body. That simply means that the body cannot produce them. There are three types DPA, EPA and DHA. Each of these is needed to support the function of different bodily systems. Here’s a look at some of them, along with links to full articles, in case you want to learn more about each subject. If you keep reading, you’ll discover the improvements in health that my family has seen.
The Health Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids Include:
- Decreased risk of heart disease
- Improved blood circulation
- Beneficial in the treatment of varicose veins
- Reduced risk of high blood pressure; beneficial to those with high blood pressure as it has been shown to reduce it
- Reduces blood triglyceride levels and LDL levels
- Reduced risk of heart attacks, even after one has already suffered a heart attack
- Reduces symptoms that accompany rheumatoid arthritis and improves joint function
- Beneficial in treating anxiety and depression
- Reduced risk of breast, colon and prostate cancers
- Reduced risk of stroke
- Beneficial in the treatment of ADHD and aggressive behavior in children
- Necessary for normal growth, brain development and function in children
- Beneficial for treating diabetes and preventing the complications that may accompany it
- Improved immune system function
- Improved memory, both short and long-term
- Beneficial in treating learning and behavioral problems of all types
- Reduces inflammation
- Beneficial in treating Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s
- Relieves dermatitis
- Relieves eczema
- Improves firmness and moisture content of the skin

When you look at that entire list of benefits it might seem impossible that a single health supplement could help with all of these conditions. In fact, my husband once asked, “Is there anything that this stuff is NOT good for?”
But, there are clinical studies and scientific data to support all of the above statements. And I can tell you from personal experience that many of them are immediately noticeable without a doctor’s exam. I had to visit my doctor again after three months for a follow-up and he was so pleased with my cholesterol levels that he assumed I was taking the statins he had prescribed.
I said, “Guess what, I’m not taking the statins. I started taking a fish oil supplement twice a day!”
Now let me tell you about the other health benefits that my family and I have noticed. This is my testimonial.
No More Joint Pain!
I’m an active 45-year old. I love walking and hiking. I walk at least three miles per day. My family and I regularly take circuit hikes on our vacations. Some of them are 12-hour hikes. We like the rugged mountain trails and going up has never been a problem for me. But before I started taking the fish oil hiking down had become a problem.
After one hike I had to spend a week on crutches and six weeks in physical therapy because of knee pain and swelling. I thought that knee replacement surgery would appear somewhere in my future.
Since I started taking the fish oil, I have no more problems with my joints at all. I can hike as long as I want and never feel sore the next day. My husband and son have also noticed that they have fewer aches and pains after a day-long hike.
No More Itchy, Flaky Skin!
Everyone in my family has always had dry, itchy skin, particularly in the winter time. We had tried all kinds of different lotions but nothing worked. My son had problems with dandruff. I say “had” because that was before we all started taking a fish oil supplement every day.
My husband used to keep a backscratcher by his bed and although his skin was dry, he had a tendency to break out. He had acne when he was young and I assumed that the condition was associated with some of the solutions that his doctor recommended that led to the excessive dryness. Now I just think it was a lack of omega 3s in his diet.
We Have More Energy! We Are More Alert! Our Memories Are Clearer!
All of us feel that we have more energy. I feel more alert. I had started to have problems with my memory…like remembering people’s names or things that happened during my childhood. It may sound amazing and it is an amazing difference. But there’s more.
Have Children with ADHD?
My niece was recently diagnosed with ADHD. My own son struggled with focusing for years. When I read that several studies showed improvement in children with ADHD and my son told me he felt it was easier to concentrate after he started taking a fish oil supplement, I called my sister. Her daughter started taking a fish oil supplement every day and after three months her grades had improved without Ritalin or any other drug. I think that the pharmaceutical companies and the doctors keep a lot of information to themselves so we’ll keep buying drugs and spend more time and money in the doctor’s office. I’m not suggesting you stop seeing your doctor regularly. A regular physical is a good preventive measure. I’m just suggesting you look for alternatives when doctors get out the prescription pad.
Does Anyone in Your Family Suffer from Depression?
I have a big family so I have a lot of stories to tell. My brother told me that he had been feeling depressed. He is getting older. His wife has type II diabetes and has been in poor health for many years.
I asked if he was taking a fish oil supplement every day. He said that he had tried them for a while but didn’t feel they were doing any good. I suggested he try the brand that I take because all supplements are not the same. He wrote to me a few weeks later and said, “Thanks!” He was feeling much better. His mood was lighter. Nothing had changed in his life but the “mountains no longer seemed too high to climb."
That brings me to the next subject, which is…
…choosing the right fish oil
You Should Ask These Questions:
- What kind of fish is used as the source?
- What part of the fish is used?
- To what ocean is the fish a native?
- How is the fish oil purified?
- How fresh is the fish when it gets to the purification facility?
- What standards are used to test for purity?
- What is the DHA, EPA and DPA content?
- Is vitamin E added?
- Does the company use artificial flavors or other additives?
The Type of Fish and Where It Swam
If the source fish is not listed don’t buy it. If the ocean in which it swam is unclear don’t buy it. If the part of the fish that is used is the liver and not the flesh don’t buy it.
For many years the most common type of fish oil supplement was Cod liver oil. And most Cod come from the Atlantic Ocean. Seventy-five years ago that might have been okay. But things have changed.
Fish in the Atlantic Ocean have high mercury and PCB levels. The highest concentration of these toxins is found in their livers. Older, larger fish like the Cod have the highest concentrations. Fish at the bottom of the food chain have the lowest levels of toxins and if they have been swimming in a clean environment their flesh is not contaminated.
The fish to look for is called the Hoki fish and the waters around New Zealand, where it swims, are some of the cleanest on earth. To read more about the New Zealand Hoki fish, click here.
Purification & the Purification Facility
Regardless of how “clean” the fish is, the oil should be purified with molecular distillation before it is encapsulated. Any toxin can be removed in this way. The purification facility should only be minutes away from where the fish was caught. But most manufacturers simply don’t care. The fish are allowed to lie on the dock until it gets close to rotting. Unpurified oils become rancid and manufactures use an added flavor to hide the taste and smell of rancid fish oil, which is one of the nastiest smells imaginable.
Standards
XTEND-Life, the brand of supplements I use, has higher standards for purity than any regulating agency. The International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS) allow arsenic, a poisonous organic substance, at levels of 100 parts per billion. XTEND-Life allows only 50ppb. IFOS allows 100 ppb of cadmium, a heavy metal. XTEND-Life allows only 10ppb. IFOS allows 100 ppb of lead and mercury. XTEND-life allows a maximum of 50 and 75, respectively. The standards set down by the Council for Responsible Nutrition, the European Pharmacopoeia and the Norwegian Medicinal Standards are even lower. Xtend-life has the highest standards of any supplement manufacturer in the world.
DHA, EPA, and Vitamin E
The standard for fish oil supplements is 1000 mg of fish oil per capsule. However, 1000 mg of fish oil contains various amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, depending, once again, on the kind of fish that is used as the source. For example, 1000 mg of Hoki fish oil contains more than 430 mg of omega 3 fatty acids. 1000 mg of anchovy oil (a common choice) contains only 300 mg of total omega 3s.
As far as DHA and EPA content goes, most supplement companies don’t break it down. XTEND-life’s brand provides 260mg of DHA and 60mg of EPA.
The brain is primarily composed of fat, DHA fat to be exact. Clinical studies have shown that DHA deficiencies are associated with attention deficit disorder, cystic fibrosis, depression, aggressive behavior; Alzheimer’s and decreased cognitive function in the elderly.
DHA omega-3 has a positive effect on hypertension (high blood pressure), arthritis, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), depression, type II diabetes, heart disease and some cancers. Studies indicate that DHA supplements have an anti-inflammatory effect. They improve the function of the immune system and increase HDL (good) cholesterol levels.
The data is not clear, but it is believed that HDL binds to LDL and carries it to the liver where it can be easily disposed of. The higher your HDL levels, the less likely that the cholesterol will build up in the walls of your arteries and cause heart disease or a stroke. It has also been shown that DHA lowers triglyceride levels more effectively than EPA. EPA cannot be converted to DHA within the human body. DHA can easily be converted to EPA, so it is important that the brand you choose is primarily composed of DHA.
Vitamin E is an effective antioxidant that provides numerous benefits. It may even play a role in preventing cancer. It is important for the health of the skin, the hair, the eyes and the heart.
Most companies use a synthetic form of vitamin E, which may not be beneficial. XTEND-life uses only natural vitamin E, which also helps to preserve the fish oil and prolong the shelf life.
Just Say “NO” to Artificial Additives and Flavors!
You cannot completely avoid artificial flavors, colorings and preservatives. But your supplements should not contain them. Those additives are believed to play a role in ADHD. They build up in the liver, the organ responsible for disposing of LDL cholesterol, converting fat into energy and removing toxins from the body. Most artificial additives are toxins. In small amounts, they are not poisonous. They won’t cause immediate illness. But they build up in the human body, increasing your lifetime “body burden.” Body burden is directly related to chronic and life-threatening diseases as well as heart disease and cancer.
In Conclusion
I would have to say that XTEND-Life dietary supplements have greatly improved our lives. I can honestly say that there is no equivalent drugstore or department store omega-3 supplement. Occasionally I read the labels just to be sure. They may be a little more expensive than generics but as I mentioned with my brother’s experience, the cheap supplements cannot provide the health benefits you want. If you receive no benefit from a supplement it is a waste of money no matter how little or how much it costs.
I guarantee that you will benefit from using the XTEND-Life products and the company guarantees it as well. They guarantee value for money, purity and customer satisfaction. And believe me, there are much more expensive fish oil supplements on the market.
Dr. Barry Sears, author of the Zone diet books has a line of dietary supplements. He strongly advocates the need for omega 3 fish oil supplements, but a bottle of his omega 3s costs $50 for a one month supply. For $50.55, you can get three bottles of XTEND-Life’s Omega 3s. That’s a full three month supply for an adult.
So...
…What Are You Waiting For?
Order Some Healthy Fish Oil Today And Start Feeling Better Tomorrow
You will notice immediate results. You will feel better, look better and have more energy. There are even studies indicating that fish oil supplements can help you control your weight. It makes sense because most of us believe that the cause of rising obesity in the world is a diet high in calories but low in nutrition. That’s what causes food cravings. Your body is trying to tell you something in the only way that it knows how.
A Final Word about the Skin
The benefits to the skin are due to the essential fatty acids which make up the skin’s sebum, the natural oil produced by the sebaceous glands that provides moisture and firmness. Cracking and excessive dryness of the skin is due to a lack of those essential fatty acids in the diet. A noted dermatologist and author has found that a person’s skin looks firmer and less wrinkled after three days of eating mostly fish (primarily salmon) and vegetables.
I don’t agree with the idea of eating salmon that often. Ocean’s Alive, a website for the Environmental Defense Fund, recommends only four meals per month. They recommend eating fish three times per week but they suggest you vary the type of fish in order to avoid toxins that may be present in the fish. They also suggest that you avoid Atlantic salmon entirely and only eat Wild Pacific or Alaskan salmon. Of course, increased consumption of Alaskan salmon by humans is causing environmental issues because many birds, bears and other wildlife depend on Alaskan salmon.
The New Zealand Hoki fish is plentiful. New Zealand fishermen use practices that are safe and environmentally friendly. The Hoki is a smaller fish that reproduces quickly and is not the primary diet of other species. But back to the skin.
A research study showed that a daily dietary fish oil supplement increased firmness of the skin in volunteers that participated in the study. If you’re worried about wrinkles or you’ve noticed some sagging, you should try some fish oil just for that reason. I’ve noticed that the skin on my neck is tighter and my flesh seems to “snap back” more quickly.
Consider your fish oil supplement an anti-aging, anti-cancer, anti-heart disease and all around preventative measure towards good health….for you and your family!
